General
Discription of the School The
Problems We have to face The
school is situated in the very centre of the town.It is the largest secondary
state school in the town and it provides academic knowledge in twelve years to
more than 1.300 pupils ranging from 6-7 to 17-18 years of age .The present
school grew out of the primary school which was established in 1939.Since then
the school has been rapidly expanding both in number of students and teaching
facilities mostly because of the early teaching of the English language
introduced in the second year of school .The pupils are usually taught from 7
subjects in the primary classes to 10-12 subjects in the senior classes. School
always starts on September 1 and finishes on June 1 public and state holidays
are included. Since
the school year 2000-2001 a profile learning was totally introduced to the last
2 classes all over Lithuania.Lots of benefits were offered to the students, the
most favourable of which was a students possibility to choose subjects most
useful for their future studies prospects Now they can concentrate on the core
curriculum which will lead to better results
and guarantee favourable entrance at University. However,
several problems have settled down along with the profile learning such as
truancy, lateness, indiscipline, arte not so frequent with younger students. After we(Stase,Gene,Egle)
have rendered account to the school staff on our trip to Italy the following
problems have been pointed out for the Comenius Project to be discussed: 1.bad
attendance; 2.lateness; 3.misbehaviour; This year we
intend to set our sights on discussing the problems of bad attendance. For that
reason the school administration together with the School Methodological Council
have designed a plan how to gain answers to the following questions: 1.Does the
profile learning solely cause bad attendance problems? 2.How does a
student/a teacher/parents/administration suffer from bad attendance caused by
students’ overburdening? 3.What aspects
must be improved at school in order to eliminate the problem of senior students’
overburdenung and how important it is to do that? |
